The Mazatlan Aquarium is a must see attraction for both the young and old. Its basically, a slimmed down version of one of the more larger and extravagant aquarium/zoos that you may have already been to in the U.S. or Canada but with one big difference and that is that it is Mexican, so it has its own unique ambiance and flavor that can only be found south of the border.
The trained seal show is great and your kids will just love it! Dress them in clothes that they can get wet in and sit them on the bottom left side of the arena and just wait. The place is small, so they will think that the seals are going to end up in their lap but instead they get a big wave of water each time they dive in the tank that will leave then completely drenched! 
The tropical gardens are awesome, as are all of the exotic birds that they have on display. There are also trained parrot shows that are hysterical. Wander inside and you can view a huge selection of native indigenous sea life in nicely arranged aquariums.
If you or someone in your group is into sport fishing then they must see the display that they have that showcases the history of sport fishing in Mazatlan. They will be absolutly amazed when they feast their eyes on the glass cases full of antique fishing equipment and ocean fishing lures of all sizes, shapes and configurations.
One thing that you will really like about the place is that all of the birds and animals there are in nice big well maintained enclosures, so you won't be faced with anything that appears to be even remotely inhumane. Its about half way up the Malecone on the left and then down a block, making it just a three minute cab ride from the Gold Zone.
